Three very hot days in which we filmed three Uncut interviews with three stellar people – quite the result!
This week I sat down with Emily Rickard, CEO of BUCK, who grew her agency to the absolute creative powerhouse it is today. We covered a lot of ground, from why the agency’s philosophy speaks to Silicon Valley and how to make innovation a true part of your company’s DNA.
Looking remarkably fresh after a long flight from New York, Nomi Leasure told me about how, unbeknownst to her, her background in theatrics and writing prepped her for her role as MD of Pinch. But also how she still suffers from the dreaded imposter syndrome, even whilst working with some of the biggest brands in the world and seeing rapid growth.
And finally, Jonathan Emmins, founder and global CEO of Amplify, and I had a great time talking about building an agency from the ground up and looking back on an 18-year-long journey (that resulted in a mad number of campaigns and activations being launched), and what his phrase “Joining the dots between people, brands and culture” really means for the agency.
All this against the most beautiful backdrop of Cannes btw which made these conversations that much more special. So thank you Common Interest, Residence and Propeller Group for hosting us at your stunning locations.
All three leaders had one thing in common - they care for the next generation. They mentor, they offer opportunities for young talent and they create a culture in which potential failures are considered part of the learning process. I absolutely loved hearing that.
Each was passionate about fostering talent and welcoming new entrants to the industry, and all had made sure it was part of their company’s ethos and not just a good-weather statement, quickly forgotten in turbulent or busy times.
Besides looking for someone to sponsor this series, I’m also looking to connect with more agency leaders who can tell me about their views on innovation, motivation and the industry. So drop me a line if that’s you – and who knows, you might be part of the next season of Uncut!
