"Underneath all this lies a subtler shift: gambling is beginning to feel normal, manageable, or even like a form of sports knowledge. Surveys from Uruguay and Argentina point in that direction: many Uruguayans see gambling as something that can be practiced responsibly, while some young Argentines see sports betting less as gambling than as a way to show they understand the game. When a behavior stops feeling risky, uptake can accelerate." This by Suzanne Duryea, speaking of gambling during the world cup (particularly in Latin America but I think this applies broadly). I'd love to hear from people--is anyone else studying the normalization of continual sports betting? That is--studying second order beliefs about how "everyone is betting", or how we have started to shift our language to describe our ideas about probability as a bet? (I've noticed this among sportscasters, but also among ordinary people).
