Campaign Managers - Static vs Dynamic QR Code Failures

Static vs Dynamic QR Codes: What Can Actually Go Wrong? Doing some research for a piece on QR campaigns that completely bombed in the wild because things went sideways. Wanted to see what kind of nightmares y'all have run into. Everyone knows the theory behind static vs dynamic, but I’m way more curious about what happens after you’ve already sent thousands of fliers or posters to print. With static codes, the classic screw-ups usually look like this: You rebrand or restructure the site, and suddenly the old URL is a dead 404. The domain lapses or the whole server goes down. You realize too late that you actually need scan metrics for management, but the code’s already baked into print and you're SOL. Dynamic codes fix those headaches, but they trade them for a different kind of leash. Like: The redirect SaaS decides to shut down or alters its T&Cs. Your monthly sub expires because accounting forgot to update a card, and all your codes brick overnight. The redirect service gets super laggy - which is an absolute disaster if your code is plastered on a billboard on a busy highway. Then there’s the obvious budget split. Static is usually free and zero maintenance, but rigid as hell. Dynamic runs you around $5-50 a month depending on the provider, plus the nagging fear of vendor lock-in. Feels like it boils down to choosing between a dumb-simple setup you fully control vs. a flexible one where you’re at the mercy of a third-party tool. Anyone here had a campaign blow up in their face because a code failed at the absolute worst possible time? Would love to hear the horror stories.
