Case Studies-Families Facing Childhood Cancer Government Support

Asking for info about how the government of your country helps families dealing who have a child battling cancer for a documentary I am doing As the title says, I am preparing a documentary about this subject and I want some real information from people actually affected from this. My daughter was diagnosed with cancer (RMS) back in May and during this difficult time we received a lot of support from our family and social circle (not talking about money, just help with our other child, school drives etc.). Unfortunately the government of my country, even though it says it supports families, don't really do anything. Every family is entitled to a monthly allowance of about 800 euros (which we still haven't received and won't receive until June the earliest), and that's basically it. We are lucky in a sense because financially we are able to make ends meet even if my wife has quit her job to stay home with my daughter full time, but we have met other families who are not so lucky, which is the main reason why we are doing this. I know of a family we had to move to another country for 6 months for therapy and the government, even though they are entitled to about 70% of the money they spent back, still haven't sent a penny. And we are not talking about a couple of grand, this is hundreds of thousands of euros. They had to take a high-interest loan from the back, so by the time they get sent the money back, they will owe potentially thousands more in interest. And this is just one case, we also know of families who lost their house because they couldn't pay the mortgage as they lost their jobs when they had to move to another country for 9 months for therapy. We want to make people see how much of a struggle this is, and maybe pressure politicians to make changes which really help all those families whose lives are forever changed by having a child diagnosed with cancer. Any info you can tell me will be appreciated, the good and the bad. Thank you!
