Chapel Hill Alumni & Historians on Murder Mart History-The Daily Tar Heel

Memories of Key Food Mart ("Murder Mart")/Avalon/Gotham Hi! I'm an editor at The Daily Tar Heel currently working on a piece about Key Food Mart (nicknamed "Murder Mart" by virtually everyone nowadays). Do any older alumni (classes of the late 90s/early 2000s) or Chapel Hill historians remember how and when it got its name? I've heard it's because of an incident that occurred in the parking lot of now-closed bar Avalon (formerly Gotham), but I'd love to chat further about the history and legend of Murder Mart!
