Commercial Seafarers’ Experiences in High-Risk Sea Routes

Commercial seafarers, I genuinely want to hear from you. You’re sailing through some of the busiest sea routes on earth. Nearly 30% of global container traffic and around 20% of the world’s oil passes through these waters. And now those same lanes are being discussed in the context of strikes, blockades and “disruption.” This is not the old piracy scenario of small boats, ladders and ransom calls. We’re talking about state actors, hypersonic and ballistic missiles, warheads reportedly close to 1,000 kg. Impact in minutes. No negotiation window. No time to process. What does that do to you mentally when you’re on watch at 2 AM staring at a dark horizon? How are families coping back home? Are crews anxious, numb, angry, calm? What are captains telling their teams to keep morale steady? Markets react to freight rates and oil prices. But very few ask how the people actually at sea are holding up. If you’re out there right now, share what it feels like.
