Community Civic Transformation Stories for NYT Power Walk Feature

The New York Times is exploring how ordinary people can transform their neighborhoods through collective civic power using a method called a Power Walk. This initiative highlights examples like Gotham Park in Lower Manhattan, where local residents reclaimed and revitalized public space. The journalist is seeking stories and examples from readers about places in their own communities that are undergoing or could undergo similar transformative processes driven by local civic engagement. If you see possibilities for change in your own community and want to give the Power Walk a try, we would like to hear from you. Start by telling us about where you’re thinking of going. We’re looking for places that might showcase what can happen when a group of ordinary people decide to transform the place where they live. Briefly describe the place you have in mind. Is it a neighborhood in your city? A particular block or feature, like a plaza? What stage of transformation is the place in? Ready for change, Starting to change, Mid-transformation, Largely transformed, or Post-transformation? Why do you think this would be a good location for a Power Walk? We’re looking for places that have been changed by ordinary people coming together to exercise civic power, or where such change is highly possible. What makes the place you’re thinking of a good fit? What city and state (or country, if outside the U.S.) is it in?
