Africa's oral health challenge is not only about a shortage of dentists, facilities or equipment. There is another problem we need to talk about: data. Every day, dental clinics, hospitals and health systems generate valuable information. But too much of that data remains fragmented, underutilised or disconnected from the decisions that could improve patient care, practice performance, research and policy. In this article, we explore why Africa's dental industry has a data problem, what it is costing us, and why building stronger oral health intelligence systems could be one of the most important opportunities for the future of dentistry on the continent.
