Heritage-Listed Church Wardens in Sheffield - Refurbishment Challenges
Abandoned/Inactive Churches in Sheffield
Hello all!
I am beginning a research-based feature article on the state of heritage-listed abandoned/inactive churches in Sheffield.
We are at a tricky time in society where church attendance is down, forcing some churches to converge with others, leaving former sites to go into disarray, or to be left neglected due to high refurbishment costs.
Heritage listed churches are particularly interesting to me because there are certain criterium that refurbishers/repairists need to follow, so if there is no one around to fund that, or it's not possible, we essentially have some really beautiful buildings being left.
Anyway, I am looking to interview a few people for the piece, so if you or anyone you know has connections to people who may be interesting in speaking with me about either community incentives, issues, etc. that would be invaluable!
As it stands, I plan to mention Middlewood church, Loxley United Reformed church and Trinity Methodist church.
It's a bit of a niche one, but could end up being pretty interesting!
