Hi, based on a recent conversation featuring Konkona Sensharma, Abhay Deol and Dibakar Banerjee, I am exploring a story for The Indian Express about how Indian cinema has shaped the way regular people view sex. For example, actor Daisy Shah recently spoke about the Kannada film industry's navel obsession.
For many, the first exposure to the idea of sex wasn’t through parents or schools, but through films. I’d like to understand:
-How has Hindi cinema influenced your perceptions of sex, intimacy, consent, and pleasure, especially in India, where sex ed is still taboo?
-What is the gap between onscreen portrayals and real-life experiences (like performance pressure, expectations, disappointment)?
-Understand consent, pleasure, awkwardness: what gets erased
-What can be done to address these gaps
I’m looking to speak with intimacy coordinators, cinema-goers, sex therapists and filmmakers. (I would also like to do a short video interview with an intimacy coordinator for our social media reels that will be posted on the main as well as lifestyle and entertainment accounts).
Request you to comment or DM me if you'd like to be a part of this informative story.
Thank you!
