Does anyone know who put these “YEEZUS 06/18” red tape stickers around Kharkiv, Ukraine in 2013?
Hey! I’m currently making a video about Kanye West and Yeezus, and while researching the album I came across these really interesting old photos. I’d love to find out who was actually behind them and, if possible, learn the story behind this little campaign/project.
The photos were apparently taken in Kharkiv, Ukraine, around the release of Yeezus in 2013.
Someone placed pieces of red tape with “YEEZUS 06/18” handwritten on them all around the city — on benches, an intercom, signs, a toilet cistern, and even over a portrait of then-Kharkiv mayor Hennadiy Kernes.
I’m trying to find the original source or the person who made this.
It may have been connected to the 2013 YeezyGraffiti / “PLEASE ADD GRAFFITI” fan campaign, but I haven’t been able to confirm that.
I also came across an old YeezyGraffiti Tumblr submission from 2013 credited to a now-deactivated account called chymeria, which might be related, although I haven’t been able to confirm that these are the same photos.
Does anyone remember seeing these pictures back in 2013, know where they were originally posted, or possibly know the person who did this?
I’d especially love to hear from anyone who was active on KanyeToThe, Tumblr, VK, or in the Ukrainian Kanye/hip-hop community around 2013.
Any lead would be greatly appreciated. Even an old repost, username, Tumblr page, VK post, etc. could help me track down the original source for the video.
