LGBTQ Professionals on Career Impact of Masculinity Bias

Has being gay impacted your career? Full transparency: I'm a writer working on a piece about being gay in the modern workplace, specifically about how you often must be the "right" type of gay (i.e. very Masc4Masc) to get promoted and succeed and even delving into whether or not we sort of harm ourselves by policing each other in the workplace (studies are showing both straight and gay men prefer "masculine" presenting gay men in leadership roles), so just wanted to see if any one out there has felt being gay (or being the right or wrong type of gay) has impacted their career positively or negatively.
