Medical Laboratory Professionals - Nonfiction Book Work Experiences

Medical Laboratory Professionals: I’d Like to Include Your Experiences in a Nonfiction Book Project Hi everyone — I’m an RN and healthcare manager working on a reported nonfiction book, Good in a Crisis, about the human experience and hidden cost of working in healthcare. I’m collecting written experiences from healthcare workers, and I specifically want to make sure medical laboratory professionals are represented. Too much of the public conversation about healthcare focuses only on physicians and nurses, even though laboratory professionals carry enormous responsibility for patient care while often working largely outside the public eye. I’d especially like to hear from MLS/MTs, MLTs, phlebotomists, microbiology, blood bank/transfusion medicine, histology, pathology support staff, laboratory leadership, and others working in clinical laboratories. The questionnaire asks about topics such as: why you entered healthcare/laboratory medicine what the work has given you and taken from you staffing and workload high-stakes or memorable experiences feeling recognized—or invisible—within healthcare leadership and workplace culture stress, grief, mistakes, responsibility, and moral conflict effects on life outside work what makes people stay or leave the profession what you wish other healthcare workers, leaders, and the public understood about laboratory work This is a nonfiction reporting/book project, not an academic research study. Participation is voluntary. Most questions are optional, the deeper sections are optional, and you may participate without providing your name or email address. At the end, you choose whether your responses may be quoted or paraphrased, how you may be identified, or whether your responses should be used only as background. Please do not include identifiable patient information. Questionnaire: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc5H5Qq1xw47X6PH1xSHzpB7C1VijPeCOkq2DIjMOHRbeArcw/viewform One question at the center of the project is: What has healthcare taken from you—and what has it given you that you would never give back? I’d really value perspectives from the laboratory because I don’t want this book to describe healthcare only through the people patients see at the bedside.
