Healthcare workers: I want to hear your story.
I’m beginning research for my next nonfiction book, Good in a Crisis, about the human cost of working in healthcare—what the work gives us, what it takes from us, what follows us home, and what needs to change.
I’m looking to hear from nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, CNAs, paramedics/EMTs, therapists, healthcare leaders, and others who have worked in healthcare.
I want the whole picture:
What brought you into healthcare?
What has the work given you?
What has it taken from you?
What experiences still follow you home?
What have we learned to call “normal” that people outside healthcare might find extraordinary?
I created an electronic questionnaire so you can share your experience in writing, on your own time. Most questions are optional, deeper topics are optional, and you may participate without providing your name or email address.
You also decide whether anything you share may be quoted, paraphrased, attributed to a pseudonym, used anonymously, or used only as background.
Please do not include identifiable patient information.

If you know a healthcare worker whose story deserves to be part of this conversation, please share this with them.
Healthcare asks extraordinary things of ordinary human beings. I want to understand what that has meant for the people doing the work.
