People Who Served Alongside Danish Personnel - Memories

To everyone who ever stood next to a Danish soldier: I have a question. On September 5, Denmark celebrates its National Flag Day. It is a day to recognize Danish soldiers and other personnel who have served abroad, and to remember those who never came home. I am a Danish Afghanistan veteran and a journalist. Today, I work with the gap between the military world and the civilian world. This year, I want to try something different: I want to hear from you. If you have ever worked alongside Danish personnel on an international mission, as a soldier, interpreter, diplomat, police officer, aid worker, doctor, technician, journalist, driver, contractor, local partner, or in any other capacity, I would like you to leave a comment. Tell us about the Danes you worked with. It can be a story. A funny incident. Something they did that you still remember. Something annoying. Or something impressive. Two words. A sentence. Whatever comes to mind. I will use your words to recognize Danish veterans on September 5. Because sometimes the people who can best tell a soldier what he or she meant are the people who stood next to them when it mattered.
