Physicians Experienced With Klinefelter Syndrome - Patient Referrals

Over a year ago I finally made a TikTok account. I'm almost never on it except to post, and if I'm honest, I need to be a lot more consistent than I have been. The account is about one thing: Klinefelter syndrome, the condition I've had since birth and didn't get diagnosed with until I was 17. Six hundred followers. My top video sitting at half a million views. Small by any real measure. There's a stat that gets repeated constantly: 30% of people with Klinefelter go undiagnosed. I've never understood how anyone arrives at that number. If someone is undiagnosed, by definition nobody counted them. It's not like we're running karyotypes on cadavers to true it up after the fact. That 30% is a guess dressed up as a statistic, and it gets used to make the condition sound more common than anyone can prove it is. I get some version of that same response at work, too. I'm at a 503A compounding pharmacy, a job I genuinely love, working with people I'm proud to be associated with. A lot of my conversations are with clinicians in the hormone replacement space, and when Klinefelter comes up, the answer is almost always the same: one patient. Maybe two, across an entire career. That's not what a common condition looks like. In the last few months I've had a handful of real phone calls with parents of kids who have it. Sitting on the phone and being able to hand someone even a little bit of certainty, when three weeks earlier they had none, might be some of the best use of my time I've found. Being public about having Klinefelter didn't cost me what I thought it would. It made the impact, small as it is, possible. It's also the reason I started writing a book. I'm nowhere near done, but I've gotten through my early years, and I've already shared that draft with a few dozen parents. More of them than I expected have told me it helped. I'll share it here when it's finished. What hasn't slowed down is parents asking me to point them to a physician who's actually treated Klinefelter's, and more often than I'd like, I don't have a great answer.
