Call for POC artists for an article about collage [DISCUSSION]
Hi everyone! I hope you all are enjoying the start of your week so far!I am a fellow collage artist/creative blogger (you can find my work/writing on mywebsite/substack/insta lacompasseresse)A few weeks ago I got to see an expo of Mickalene Thomas’ collages and read/see bits of her process of making her portrait works and the importance of POC history and the joy of being a black woman in her works. One of the things she talked about was black representation in collage/photography/art in general and the usage of her friends/family/loved ones as models for her works as there are not as many vintage photographs of poc as there are of white people. It made me curious about how other artists focusing on these themes go about sourcing and finding the right materials for creating and what these questions of identity, representation, and joy mean to them. I think in these crazy times these are issues that need to be talked about and kept in the conversation, even if its only in our local or niche communities!
Anyway I wanted to know is if there are any artists focusing on these motifs in their works that would be willing to be interviewed/answer some questions and submit their art to be written about for my blog post? As I’m not sure if there will be a lot of responses or only a few, I’m not 100% sure how the article will be formatted/how many people I can include/etc and will need to figure that out. I would obviously credit/quote/tag anyone involved in the article if interested! :)
Would those interested be more comfortable exchanging via email or filling out a google form of questions ? I'm open to any ideas!
Let me know what yall think and happy collaging !
