Here I am in rose tinted glasses - my default setting is optimism. My mum would constantly tell me to be more PollyAnna when I was young - irritating at the time - but maybe it worked.
As a founder, I always believe the next big thing is just around the corner. The next client. The next breakthrough. The next conversation that changes everything.
Sometimes that’s completely irrational. But if I genuinely believed all the doom and gloom headlines every day, why would I bother? Why would I take another risk? Why would I build anything?
OffScript Generation we’re trying to give young people something I think is in dangerously short supply: realistic optimism. Not toxic positivity. Not pretending everything will be fine. Just enough hope that they actually feel like getting off the sidelines and having a go.
I’m writing about optimism for my book and I’d love to speak to someone who really understands it.
A psychologist? A behavioural scientist? Someone who’s studied why some people keep going when others give up.
Who would you recommend?
PS. Last time I asked LinkedIn to help me find a money expert, I met brilliant people who are now speaking. I still didn’t manage to get anyone Monzo to reply… but let’s not dwell on that.
