Seattle K-2 Parents - New Screen Time Limits & Classroom AI
Issue 43 -- SPS Scales Back iPad Use in K-2 Classrooms
In this issue we take a relatively quick look at this week's announcement of new screen time limits in grades K-2. It's a good start, but is notably less ambitious and less comprehensive than the limits LA and NYC public schools adopted for this school year, which cover all grades.
NYC also just banned generative AI, but SPS hasn't. That's despite growing concerns among parents, educators, and students about what seems to be widespread AI use in SPS classrooms. (We're working on a story there too and if you have any experiences to share, let me know!)
