Single Adults Living Alone - Monthly Grocery Spending 2026

How much are you spending on groceries monthly in 2026? Hey all longtime lurker here. Im working on a story about grocery costs especially these past few months and what people are actually spending. I thought this would be one of the best places to ask this. Im a single person living alone and I spend about $270-$350 a month on groceries. That number used to be wayyy down up until just last year in December. From my observation prices have literally skyrocketed since mid Jan and it actually makes me go crazy when I think about it. Naming the cause to be inflation doesn’t even feel right, correct me if Im wrong but I don’t think prices have gone high like this consistently this past 5 years like ever in modern history. Im unable to comprehend and it is just unreal these days. Most of my friends are having to decide between eating or getting gas for going to work. If you’re comfortable sharing please also mention income and number of individuals in household!
