Toronto Residents - Personal Life Stories & Family Memories
A city keeps records of its buildings. Who keeps the stories of the people who lived in them?
A photograph tucked inside a cookbook. A street name someone still pronounces the way their parents did. A suitcase that crossed an ocean and later held winter clothes.
These small things can open the door to a whole life.
When I began asking people about their lives in Toronto, I found that the stories often started somewhere unexpected. A question about a neighbourhood became a memory of arriving here. A conversation about work led to a person they missed. One detail changed the meaning of another, until a story began to take shape.
That is the work I love at QAF Narrative: listening closely, then writing a story that gives those details the space they deserve.
We’ll be publishing more stories of Toronto’s people soon: their journeys, their work, their families, and the places they have made their own.
If someone in your family has a story you’ve always meant to ask about, I hope you’ll start that conversation. And if you’d like to share it with QAF, send me a message.
