US HHS-NIH Staff Sources for Vaccine Policy & Research Funding - Nature

Nature's news team: Looking for sources on vaccine policy, scientific research funding, and more! Happy to answer any questions about my reporting. tl;dr: please reach out on Signal (mkozlov.01) - I'm all ears for anything I should be following! Hi all, I’m a reporter on Nature’s news team who’s been covering the impact of Trump's actions on science and scientists since January – including policies at NIH and HHS. My coverage was the first to report in March that hundreds of NIH research projects were going to be terminated on a slew of topics, and that it was instigated by DOGE; that Sec Kennedy and POTUS directed the NIH to study "regret" after transitioning; that hundreds of active research projects abroad would be abruptly terminated, stranding participants, and more. This coverage has been made possible thanks to the dozens of NIH and HHS staff who have reached out on background (meaning their identity remains strictly anonymous). I'm posting here because I'm always hoping to hear from more folks inside the agencies, particularly now with vaccine policy on the line, and with so much focus on the CDC and RFK. I’m always all ears to hear anything that should be on my radar or that you think has been under-reported in the media. I'm more than happy to tell you about my reporting process and answer any questions first. We hope our reporting helps the public to cut through the noise and chaos right now and offer some perspective as to what is going on with the US scientific research enterprise. Feel free to ask any questions about my reporting or what it's like to be science journalist right now - I'm happy to weigh in. Thanks all! SIGNAL: mkozlov.01 Proton Mail: [email redacted]
