Women in Leadership - Double Standard When Speaking Up

I overheard a woman on a call at my daughter’s swim class today say "this may be a dumb question, but…" twice before she even asked them. They were NOT dumb questions. They were good ones. She just wouldn't ask them without apologizing first. Last week during my keynote, a woman in the audience asked me how to navigate communication within a male dominated industry. She said she was told to speak up more and contribute more. So she did. Then… she got called “bossy.” 😒 Speak up, and get punished for how you said it. Stay quiet, and get told you don't contribute enough. There's no version of this where the criticism was ever about the actual communication. It's a double standard for women dressed up as “feedback.” It’s one that was never built for us to win, yet it IS possible. 😉 I'm going to write more on this.
