Rural Americans - AI Impact On Healthcare Access & Wearables

Do you live in rural America? I'd love to interview you! My name is Arielle Zionts, I'm a rural health reporter at KFF Health News, a U.S.-based national, nonprofit media outlet. Do you live in rural America? If so, I'd love to set up a phone interview with you for a story I'm working on! I'd ask what you think about artificial intelligence (AI) in rural healthcare. For example, do you think AI will help keep rural hospitals open and make it easier for rural people to access care and improve their health? Would you (or do you already) use health-related AI, like wearing an AI-backed smartwatch or other "wearable" that sends data to your doctor? J-1 Visa Doctors - Withdrawing Waivers Leaving U.S. Rural Practices

Interview request Hi everyone, this is Arielle Zionts again, the journalist who wrote this article: https://kffhealthnews.org/health-industry/hhs-exchange-visitor-program-visa-waiver-j1-h1b-delays-foreign-doctors-deadline TLDR: I'm looking to interview people who've withdrawn their applications so they can work in their home country or another country rather than risking not getting their HHS J1 waiver approved in time. I'm especially interested in talking to people who planned to work in a rural area. Context: I know that applications are moving forward but also that we are getting close to the deadline. My understanding is that applications need to advance to USCIS by July 30 to maintain status in the country. I know that some people withdrew their applications a while ago so they could apply to another waiver program, or becuase they decided to extend their H-1B status through more training. But a doctor told me that some of their friends have withdrawn their applications more recently because even if HHS already forwarded their application to the State Department, or will do so soon, there's still the risk that it won't make it to USCIS in time. They are withdrawing their applications to secure a job in their home country, or another country, rather than risk having to leave the U.S. last minute without a job. I'd like to learn what this means for the doctors, the facility they planned to work at, and the patients. Thank you! Arielle

State Health Data Orgs - HHS Access To Medical Records

Today, KFF Health News published detailed information on how U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is pursuing access to Americans' medical records through little-known state organizations that collect patient information from hospitals and health systems around the country. This story has been over a year in the making, when one of Kennedy's closest advisers first told me in December 2024 (yes, before even entering the office) that they wanted Americans' medical records to analyze them directly. It took months of digging, phone calls, source meetings -- then making more calls, again -- and enlisting the skilled help of Darius Tahir to get the reporting over the finish line. I'm glad today that we are able to finally give the public insight into important conversations happening behind closed doors at HHS about Americans' medical records. SNAP Recipients Affected by H.R. 1 Work Rules for KFF Health News

New work requirement rules for SNAP Hi there! I am a reporter in Atlanta for KFF Health News (https://kffhealthnews.org/). Our stories run in national and local outlets across the country. I'm working on a story about the new provisions in H.R. 1 that essentially expand SNAP work requirements to more groups of people that were previous exempt. So now former foster care youth, veterans, homeless people, parents with all kids over the age of 14 and older adults will now have to report work hours or lose SNAP.
