Have you developed a food intolerance or allergy as an adult, even though you grew up eating that food without any problems?
For my upcoming piece for The Indian Express, I'm writing about adult-onset food intolerances and allergies, inspired by my own experience of developing an intolerance to milk and dairy products in my late 20s. What began as a personal health puzzle has made me curious about how and why this happens to so many adults.
For this story, I'm looking to speak with:
• People who developed food intolerances or allergies in adulthood, particularly to foods they had eaten comfortably for years (such as milk, wheat, eggs, nuts, shellfish or others).
• Gastroenterologists, allergists/immunologists and other clinicians who can explain the science behind adult-onset intolerances and allergies, how common they are, whether they can be prevented, and what people should know if they suddenly start reacting to familiar foods.
If this resonates with you, or if you know someone whose experience could add valuable perspective, I'd love to hear from you. Please comment below or send me a direct message.
