Edition two of Uncorked & Forked has landed, and I’m starting to realise just how many terrific food and drink stories are hiding in plain sight around Australia. This week we’ve got 7 Paintings turning dinner into an immersive art experience at Rendezvous Hotel Melbourne ; Mollydooker Wines reminding us why McLaren Vale does big, character-filled reds so well; Deep Woods Estate flying the flag for Margaret River with another extraordinary Decanter result; and Luke Mangan making a compelling case for something I wholeheartedly support: the return of the dessert trolley. Then there’s DOLLY pairing live jazz with dinner in Melbourne, Alkoomi Wines celebrating 50 vintages, Griffith preparing to spend a week celebrating its wonderful Italian heritage, and The Bush Inn in Tasmania still pulling beers more than two centuries after opening its doors. That’s really what I want Uncorked & Forked to be about. Not simply the big names or newest openings, but the makers, chefs, winemakers, publicans, regional events and slightly eccentric ideas that give Australia’s food and drink scene its personality.
