CIWEM Members in East Anglia - Managing Fens Study Day

What a treat to get away from my desk and into a room (and then out into a glorious nature reserve) with some of the people we make The Environment for, about and with. The CIWEM East Anglian branch and Rivers & Coastal Group were kind enough to invite me to their joint ‘Managing the Fens’ study day at WWT Welney. My head is now swimming with the fascinating history, intimidating challenges and exciting opportunities for environmental management in this region. I knew a little bit before I went in, having written about wet farming for The Environment a while back - I’m now really looking forward to diving back in with my own research as I write about the study day for our digital newsletter (watch this space). As well as having my curiousity sparked by the content of the study day (thanks to Charlotte Nunns (FCIWEM CWEM CEnv) Selena Peters, FCIWEM C.WEM MSc Annissa D. & Stephanie Horner for putting together a brilliant programme of talks), meeting some of the attendees, including plenty of CIWEM members, was a real highlight. As a person in comms in this sector, I talk a lot about the value of bringing people together, but it often feels quite abstract because I do most of my work by myself - being part of the study day yesterday made it all much more tangible.
