CRE Experts on Copper Tariffs Impact – Short & Long-Term Effects
The 50% tariffs on copper announced by President Trump are likely to have significant cost implications for commercial real estate because of its use in electrical wiring, HVAC, plumbing, and other building infrastructure components. This isn't a consideration for buildings coming under construction. It also has an impact on repairs, upgrades, insurance valuations, replacement costs, etc.
There is no way to know how long these tariffs might last. I'm interested in how it's going to affect CRE owners, developers, builders, and investors, whether obvious short-term or harder-to-predict longer-term and how the effects might differ by property type.
