Criminal Lawyers Handling Rape & Death Penalty Cases - Rarest of Rare

With reports of rape and sexual violence making headlines with alarming frequency, a difficult question often follows: If rape is such a grave crime, why isn’t the death penalty given in every case? I’m exploring this question for an exclusive story for The Times of India - looking beyond the headlines to understand the legal, psychological and human dimensions of rape and sentencing. I’m looking to speak with: • Criminal lawyers and advocates specialising in rape, sexual-offence and capital-punishment cases • Women’s rights and survivors’ rights activists working with victims and their families • Psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and trauma specialists who work with survivors of sexual violence I’m particularly interested in understanding what determines a death sentence, how the “rarest of rare” threshold is applied, and the arguments for and against capital punishment in rape cases. If you have relevant expertise or can connect me with someone who does, please DM me or write me at [email redacted]
