Deaf People in UK - Organisation Failures Affecting Health & Rights

HOW MANY TIMES CAN AN ORGANISATION FAIL A DEAF PERSON BEFORE SOMEONE FINALLY HOLDS THEM ACCOUNTABLE? I want to ask Deaf people across the UK something important. What is the most shocking experience you've had with an organisation because you're Deaf? Not just an inconvenience. I mean experiences that have genuinely affected your health, safety, finances, employment, independence, dignity or basic human rights. Perhaps a bank made it impossible to access your own money because you couldn't use the telephone. A hospital failed to provide a BSL interpreter when you desperately needed to understand what was happening to your health. A government department, local council or public service repeatedly ignored your communication requirements. An employer denied you opportunities or refused reasonable adjustments. Or perhaps an airline, insurer, police force, university, housing provider or another organisation left you facing a barrier hearing people would never even have to consider. But here's what I REALLY want to know. WHAT HAPPENED WHEN YOU TRIED TO PUT IT RIGHT? Did you complain and get nowhere? Were you passed from department to department? Were you told there was no budget, no interpreter, no alternative or simply that it was company policy? Did someone apologise, promise improvements and then do absolutely nothing? Did you have to fight for months or even years? Or did you eventually give up because the process of challenging discrimination became another barrier itself? I especially want to hear about experiences that remain unresolved. And yes, I want to know the names of the organisations involved. Not just "a bank" or "a hospital". WHICH bank? WHICH NHS Trust? WHICH council? WHICH employer? WHICH company? Tell me: 1. WHO was the organisation? 2. WHAT happened, and how seriously did it affect you? 3. HOW did they respond when you challenged them? 4. IS IT STILL HAPPENING, despite your attempts to resolve it? If you have written complaints or evidence, please mention that too. You can comment or message me privately, including in BSL. Please avoid sharing sensitive personal information or naming individual staff publicly. I won't publish your personal account without your permission. I keep wondering how many Deaf people are fighting exactly the same battles against exactly the same organisations, unaware of each other. How many complaints have been closed without anything actually changing? How many organisations believe they're accessible simply because they have an accessibility policy? And how many Deaf people have stopped complaining, not because the problem was resolved, but because they were exhausted from fighting? That's what I want to understand. Please share this widely. I particularly want to hear from Deaf people whose experiences have never been taken seriously. Because a complaint being closed does not mean the discrimination has stopped. #DeafRights #BSL #Accessibility #DeafCommunity #DisabilityRights
