Disabled Adults 18+ - Workplace Experiences & Reasonable Adjustments

Disability and Employment: I Would Like to Share Your Experience. Some of the most useful insights about disability and employment come not from legislation or case law, but from the people who have experienced the workplace first-hand. Following the valuable insights shared by Ross Duncan about dyslexia in the workplace, I would really like to hear from other disabled adults about their own experiences of employment. I use the term “disability” deliberately, reflecting the language of the Equality Act 2010. I am, however, very happy to use an individual’s preferred terminology when describing their own experience, whether that is neurodivergent, autistic, visually impaired or something else. I am interested in what employment has actually been like in practice: the barriers people have faced, the adjustments that have made a difference, examples of good practice, and occasions when employers or workplace systems have fallen short. With permission, I would like to turn individual experiences into separate LinkedIn posts, with one post focusing on one person’s experience. My aim would be to highlight the practical realities of disability and employment alongside the legal framework. This is not intended as an opportunity to litigate individual disputes with employers. I am interested in the broader experience and what others may be able to learn from it. If you would be comfortable sharing your experience, whether positive or negative, please feel free to send me a private message on LinkedIn. That is my preferred way of receiving responses, and I am very happy to anonymise any account if requested.
