Employees & Psychologists - Fear Of Disappointing Others At Work
I'm working on a story for The Indian Express about a lesser-discussed form of workplace anxiety: the fear of disappointing others.
Sometimes, the anxiety at work isn't about deadlines, presentations or making mistakes. It's about feeling like you can never let people down. Maybe your manager praised your work or trusted you with a big project, and instead of feeling confident, you felt an invisible pressure to keep proving yourself. The fear isn't failure itself, but disappointing the people who believe in you.
If you've experienced this kind of performance anxiety at work, I'd love to hear your story. How did it affect your confidence, work-life balance or relationships with colleagues? Did you find ways to cope?
I'm also looking to speak with psychologists who can explain why some people tie their self-worth so closely to meeting others' expectations, how this differs from a fear of failure, and when this mindset begins to affect mental well-being.
If you're open to speaking, please comment below or DM me, and I will share a few questions to answer.
