First-Time Parents - Baby Product Ads From Algorithms & Influencers

Maybe it was a Google search, a pregnancy book you added to cart, a post online of your ultrasound. But the algorithm, maybe even before your family and friends, will know when you're pregnant. Ads and influencer videos start to flood in for the best stroller, the safest car seat, the you-must-have-this to thrive products. For exhausted, first-time parents, it can be overwhelming — and convincing. Baby products are evolving at a rapid clip, promising to solve some of the deepest pain points of those vulnerable early months. The marketing around them is also becoming more sophisticated, led by content creators skilled at building trust. They’re moms just like you, taking you under their wing to share the product they can’t live without — with a link sent directly into your DMs. Buying has never been so easy. We are working on a story on the baby product marketing machine and what it tells us about life as a parent today. We want to hear from as many of you as possible: How did you experience the pressure to buy baby items? ✍️: Leave me a comment 📧: Send me a message or email: ccarrazana[at]19thnews.org 📹: Wynton Wong, multimedia producer
