Forest Service Researchers at 57 Closing Stations - Work Impact
If anyone on here works at one of the 57 forest service research stations that are going to be closed and you want to tell me about your work there and why it's important, reach out: [email redacted]
My name is Jessica McKenzie and I'm the climate editor at the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. I'm looking to speak to forest service employees, particularly those who work at any one of the 57 research stations that are going to be closed, who want to tell me about their work and why it's important, and what will be lost if you quit, are fired, or forced to relocate. If you're worried about retaliation or don't have permission to speak to the press, we can discuss how to keep your identity hidden. (For example, it occurs to me that there may be so few researchers working on XYZ topic that saying exactly what you do and where might be the same as giving your name...we can figure out a way to describe your work creatively without giving too much detail to avoid that. Last thing I want is for more blowback/repercussions for FS workers.)
I'm also interested in hearing from scientists or researchers working WITH the Forest Service (university professors, for example) who might be in a safe or more comfortable position to speak on the record (tenured) about the importance of these research stations.
