Former Supermarket Employees in Luxembourg - Food Waste Practices

Food being thrown away in supermarkets Hi everyone. I’m currently working on an article about food waste in Luxembourgish supermarkets. Unlike in France, supermarkets in Luxembourg are not subject to a specific law regulating what happens to unsold edible food. For instance, a former Delhaize employee told me that they were instructed every evening to throw away all remaining bread and other bakery products (sometimes hundreds of items in a single evening). They added that the baked goods, although no longer sellable, were perfectly edible, but that management did not consider donating them to food banks. I’m looking to hear from other people who may have witnessed something similar or worked in a food business where edible food was routinely thrown away or even made inedible.
