Homeowners Who Shopped Mortgage Rates - Refinance Success Stories
You don’t usually buy the first home you tour. In fact, the average buyer looks at 8 to 10 different properties — measuring closets, counting bathrooms and scoping out neighborhoods — before putting in an offer.
But it’s rare to bring that same scrutiny to a mortgage. Most people (nearly 7 in 10) submit just one mortgage application, according to Zillow.
It’s the financial equivalent of skipping all the other house tours and buying the first one you see.
And missing out on a lower rate comes at a high cost. Recent Bankrate research (featured in the Wall Street Journal!) shows that Americans overpay an average of $65 billion per year on their mortgages. It rounds out to about $3,343 annually per household.
For my latest Bankrate article, I interviewed three homeowners who refused to become part of that statistic. They didn’t go with the first lender they came across; instead, they shopped around to find a rate that worked for them.
If you’re on the hunt for a lower rate — maybe you’ve got refinancing on your mind — I’d love to speak with you.Drop me a comment or shoot me an email [email redacted]
