Hyattsville Residents - Views on Virtual City Council Meetings

JOUR Student: Looking to interview/hear from Hyattsville residents about the ongoing virtual City Council meetings Hi all, I am a journalism student writing a short 6-paragraph accountability story for my Journalism 320 class at UMCP. I’m focusing on the fact that the Hyattsville City Council meetings have remained entirely virtual for years. The core issue I am looking into: The city’s official Capital Improvement Projects Map slated the 4310 Gallatin Street Council Chambers renovation for completion in 2025. Yet, we are well past that deadline, and the legislative body remains completely behind computer screens. The city's official reasoning points to delays in restoring the complex hybrid broadcasting and translation equipment. However, critics argue this has become a misleading excuse to avoid facing in-person public pushback on tense local issues. I am looking to get the perspective of local residents on this tension. Do you feel the technology delay is a valid reason to stay virtual, or do you view it as an ongoing excuse that limits transparency? If you have strong thoughts on this, especially if you've participated in virtual public comments or followed the Open Meetings Act discussions, I would love to chat with you briefly for a quote! Please comment below or send me a DM if you're open to a quick interview via email or even reddit messages. (Note: I will need real names for story attribution per class guidelines). Thank you so much for your time!
