Indian Mothers With Child Under 2 - Balancing Career Without Family
I was an extremely focused woman before I became a mother. Then things changed.
Family lives nearby but isn't in a position to help, and the paid help I found didn't work out. So it has been me. I made that choice and I don't regret it, but two years in, I've lost sight of who I really was.
My daughter turns two soon and I still haven't worked out how to hold both together- at the same time. There is the house, there is her, there is work and there is a version of my own mind I didn't anticipate. She is suddenly my first priority, and I was never this person before.
What I do know is that staying home full time back then was the hardest job I've done. There is no break and you cannot switch off. You are also not seen, because how do you place a value on work like this.
So I'm looking for perspective on how women actually balance a career with raising a small child. I would like to hear from Indian women in particular — work culture differs across countries and I want a view grounded in the reality here. Specifically from mothers who managed this without family support to fall back on, relying on a nanny or daycare, with a child under two.
I'm not looking for advice so much as what it actually looked like day to day and how you navigated it. The parts that rarely get said out loud.
If this has been your experience, or you know someone who has navigated it, I'd be glad to connect. Please DM me or leave a name in the comments.
Any leads would be much appreciated.
