Interview Subjects - Innovation Leaders on Restructure Impact
Another reflection from me… You can’t build innovation on quicksand.
To be honest, that’s what I’m hearing many teams are being asked to do. From the research I’m doing with innovation leaders, I cannot believe how many have said ‘so... we’ve just been through a restructure and…’
I’d estimate that 2/3 of my conversations have started this way.
If you take a moment to think about what that does to innovation. It’s bad.
– priorities reset
– teams change
– innovation headcount drops
– BAU teams have less time to support
– momentum disappears
– culture dips
– teams down tools as motivation wanes
– trust has to be rebuilt
– I could go on...
Innovation is hard at the best of times, but how can you ask colleagues to go above and beyond to deliver something if they don’t even know if they’ll be there in 6 months’ time?
I’m really hoping that this is just a moment in time for the sector. A phase we need to get through, so to speak.🤞
Because innovation needs consistency to work, and innovation folk can’t keep operating in this constant reset mode.
Anyway, this is my final call for anyone I’ve not spoken to yet. I’m soon putting pen to paper, but keen to speak to anyone I might have missed!
Thanks to everyone I've spoken to so far.
