LA Florists & Flower Shop Owners - Behind-the-Scenes Insights
What are the parts of the job people don’t see?
Hi everyone,
I’m writing a story about a florist in LA. I’ve been doing research about the day-to-day, learning flower types, etc., but I am curious about more specifics. Can you please share relevant facts and feelings (big or small) about owning/working at a flower shop?
I’d love to know things like:
How long have you been at it?
What is the hardest part of the job/being in the industry?
Do you keep flowers at your house? Gift people flowers? Or is it primarily a work thing?
What do holidays look like?
Do you travel for events and how far? If you own a shop, how does this work?
How does your job differ throughout the seasons?
What is your sense of smell like?
And more specific to my story:
What would be/has been an absolute nightmare to deal with?
Any words that you can think of pertaining to floristry? Any sensory details?
If you’re in LA, are there any LA/SoCal floral culture specifics I might include?
I know these are a lot of questions, but really I just want to learn about your experience. Gush or vent all you want :) Thanks so much in advance.
