Law Firm Summer Associates - Experience Since 2015

Back in the day, WSJ reporters could request a metal plate of the front page the first time they wrote an "a-hed," the quirky daily story offering readers a break from the grind of daily news. Mine was on July 7, 2015 and about, of all things, law firm summer associates. I just found the plate while going through an old box. The story spotlighted the kayaking trips, bowling parties and chartered helicopter tours summer associates enjoyed the year, while getting paid $3,000 a week. “There’s definitely an awareness that it will be different when you’re an associate,” one Kirkland summer associate told me. “But what’s great is they’re not hiding that.” This summer got away from me without talking to any summer associates about their experience.
