Media Layoff Experiences of Black & Brown Women for BrownStyle Magazine
Quick question: Have you ever been laid off — or have you ever been part of the team doing the laying off?
I’m currently working on something for BrownStyle Magazine that examines the ongoing wave of layoffs in journalism and media, with a specific focus on the experiences of Black and brown women — and the systems behind these decisions.
I’m looking to speak with:
⭐ Former HR professionals who worked at media companies
⭐ Journalists, editors, producers, and creatives who have been laid off from roles in television, newsrooms, or publication houses
I’m especially interested in conversations around:
⭐ Whether you saw the layoff coming (or didn’t)
⭐ What signals, if any, existed internally
⭐ How these decisions were communicated
⭐ What role HR played — and what was left unsaid
If you’re interested in being featured, please send me a private message and we can coordinate further. If you prefer to remain anonymous, that is more than welcome — your comfort and privacy will always be respected.
This piece isn’t about calling out companies. It’s about understanding patterns, power, and the human impact behind industry decisions.
Thank you for trusting me with your stories — and for helping move this conversation forward.
