MSU Student Auditors - Auditing Classes & Access To Education
Any student auditors open to talk for an article?
Hey everyone! I'm a reporter with The State News. I've begun work on an article regarding the practice of auditing classes at MSU. Essentially, it means attending a class as a student while not actually being enrolled in the course officially, or paying for the credits. Typically student auditors do so with the permission of the professor teaching the course, and is often very informal, as higher ups in the college do not manage auditing. Due to this informal nature, I have had trouble finding student auditors.
To me, this is a really fascinating loophole for people to still learn what courses at MSU have to offer without having to pay for the credits. And it begins to ask the question: What are students really paying for? The education, or the credits? I would like to explore this idea that these auditors get everything out of the course that paying students are receiving in terms of education (minus the credits).
I wanted to make a post here and see if there were any auditors at MSU who might be open to speaking with me about their experiences and why they chose to audit. I'm happy to talk to people who are currently auditing, or have done so in the past. Additionally, I'd also like to speak with any students who like to sit in on large lecture halls in their free time. Could be yourself or anyone you may know that fits into what I'm looking for.
If you are comfortable speaking with me, or have anyone who comes to mind, feel free to send me a dm at this account or email me at: [email redacted]. Thanks!
