Native Plant Gardeners–HOA Experiences & Policy Change US
Looking to interview native plant gardeners about HOA experiences for an article
Hi everyone, I'm a writer working on a story about HOAs, and how they control something like 1 million acres of land or more in the US. And in the vein of the Homegrown National Park, I feel like these decentralized, often volunteer-run orgs could maybe do some collective good for native wildlife... if so many of them weren't stubbornly fixated on maintaining prim and proper lawns.
I'm hoping to interview someone who's either been a) stymied by their HOA when trying to plant native, and could speak about that frustrating experience, and/or b) someone who's managed to infiltrate/get elected to their HOA board, perhaps changing the rules so that native landscapes, prairie lawns, etc. are more accepted in their community. And come to think of it, c) anyone with some legal perspective about what an HOA can and can't force a homeowner to do with their yard might be helpful as well.
Please reply or DM if you'd be up for an interview. (Note that I'd have to use your real name for any quotes, not your Reddit handle.) Thanks!
