Newcomers in Canada With Temporary Permits - Support Ecosystem

I scroll LinkedIn from time to time and see people doing well. I'm one of those scrollers with wants, dreams, and timelines. I'm Gail, a newcomer in Kingston. My work permit ends in December 2026; it's my 5th year here. I’ve been accepted into a master’s program at Queen’s University. In November, I’ll apply again for a study permit. If approved, I can stay until June 2028. That’s the time I have to explore one question: "What would it take to build an ecosystem of support for newcomers with time-limited status, so they can understand what they're going through, contribute to their community with dignity, and feel they belong even when it's uncertain how long they can stay?" I want to understand all the outside factors involved, not just our efforts. That’s why I’d like to hear from others in a similar situation. If your permit is ending soon or you’ve asked to extend it and are still waiting, I invite you to join a 90-minute Zoom talk. You can join from anywhere in Canada. The conversations will be held at 6 pm Eastern time on: - November 10th (Tue) - November 18th (Wed) - November 26th (Thu) - November 30th (Mon) We’ll focus on one question: ❓If we could change our situation, what would we do differently? And what can’t we change? What you share is up to you: with your name, anonymously, or not shared. No recording unless everyone agrees. This is NOT immigration advice. With your permission, I'll share what we learn on my website on December 6. Your time and experience are a kindness and a gift to others. Someone just starting out might read it. Leaving clues for others—shared lessons. I’m not an expert or knowledgeable. I’m just curious and want to be open about my experience. 👇🏼If you’re interested, you can sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gQFnrKGE Take care.
