Nordic & Baltic City Planners & Place Managers - City Center Watch

I’ve been thinking a lot about where city centers are heading, so I’m starting something new: City Center Watch! I’m getting back to updating my blog with a new angle, a monthly-ish roundup of city-center news from the Nordics and around the Baltic Sea. The idea is simple: I’ll collect interesting signals and developments on how city centers are changing, from street redesigns and public-space projects to waterfronts, mobility, retail vitality, place management and the future role of the urban core. The first edition looks at Helsinki, Tallinn, Oslo, Warsaw and Stockholm, with additional notes from Riga, Turku, Reykjavík, Aarhus, Copenhagen, Oulu, Stavanger, Kiel, Lübeck, Bergen and Gothenburg. Why city centers? Because the challenge of keeping the center as the living heart of the community has become a passion of mine. City centers are under pressure to adapt to changing patterns of work, retail, mobility, culture and everyday life, and I know many others are wrestling with the same questions. So let’s learn together. This first post is a bit longer than future editions will be, because I had some backlog material while getting the format started.
