Open Source Robot Security Experts - Home Robots Camera & Mic Privacy

I covered the Microduck launch, but I'm curious about the privacy/security angle of having a little bot move around your house. Looking to talk to experts who've though about open source robots that are equipped with camera and microphones (like reachy mini). Does being open source actually make a robot meaningfully more private and secure? Or does it just give the owner more control (as long as they're willing to look through thousands of lines of code). What happens when devs can install 3rd party software that accesses a robot's sensors? SHould there be safeguards around permissions, recording indicators, apps sending data off device,etc?
