Parents Raised in Cities - Raising Kids in Today's Cities
I read a recent FT piece on cities losing their children and found it both compelling and frustrating.
The article did a great job with the data - housing policies, price increases, birth rates, school closures, etc. which are pushing families outside cities, but neglected to ask some of the deeper questions that have been rattling inside my head.
I took the subway alone in Tokyo from the age of six. I won't let my 9 year old can't walk to the corner without me.
So, this is going to be my next piece on this and I'd love to hear from you:
- Where did you grow up, and what did the city give you as a child?
- Where are you raising children now, and what does it feel like for them?
- What have you had to give up, fight for, or reconstruct for your child in cities?
Drop a comment or send me a message. Your experience may find its way into the piece! Thank you!
