Yesterday, I had the privilege of sitting down with a man named Michael LaMura for a deeply moving conversation as part of our Welcome to Your Becoming book and community project. Michael shared a story that will stay with me for a very long time. And near the end of our conversation, Michael offered these words: “If there’s hope for me, there’s hope for anybody.” What moved me most was that Michael was not speaking as someone who believes all his wounds have healed. He was speaking as a father who continues to grieve, a man who has struggled with addiction, and a human being who is learning to live with his past while building a different future. He wants his children to be remembered for the lives they lived, not simply for the circumstances of their deaths. Michael, thank you for trusting me with your story. Your children matter.
