Retired Couples Living Apart for Study on Independence in Retirement

Any retired couples here who’ve chosen to live apart together? I’m curious whether anyone here is retired and in a long-term relationship but still chooses to live separately. What led to that decision, and how has it affected your relationship and your sense of independence day-to-day? Has living alone enhanced the relationship in ways you didn’t expect?
